The Story
The story starts in a police interrogation room, where Muthupandi (Prabhu), a supposed killer, is being interrogated by a police officer (Vijayakumar) about his past. Without complaint, Muthupandi tells.

Muthupandi is a son of the soil, a very hard working self-made man who dotes on his only sister Kavitha (Trisha Krishnan). Their mother died very early and it was Muthupandi who brought up Kavitha with a lot of love and affection. Kavitha’s best friend Lalitha (Richa Pallod) takes Kavitha to her house for 15 days before her wedding takes place, for her engagement and pre-marriage celebrations. As an emotional scene prior to this notes, this is the first time Kavitha has been away from her brother.
Enter Santhosh (Jayam Ravi), a happy-go-lucky, the only son of multi-millionaire parents (Bhagyaraj and Geetha). As Lalitha's cousin, he comes to India with his mother for her marriage. Santhosh is the opposite of Kavitha in their upbringings and status. As Kavitha and her brother live in a rural Indian village supported by their agriculture and livestock, Santhosh and his family are lavished in their gigantic mansion. Sathosh is first introduced atop a small private cruise ship dancing with several women as his father calls from a limo asking him why he wasn't invited to his party whereas Kavitha's entrance is more reserved. Fate would have it that these two would fall in love after a series of comic encounters. But what is love without obstacles? Santhosh’s sophisticated mother is opposed to this love and cares incredibly for socio-economic status and the welfare of her own family's status. With the help of a sleaze ball, JP (Manivannan), who wants Santhosh to marry his daughter, Shalini (Tejashree), and with the help of her brother (Lalitha's father), the three have Shalini attempt to make Santhosh fall in love with her instead. After failing to do so, the love between Santhosh and Kavitha only gains momentum. At first Kavitha is reluctant to accept Santhosh's love and appears in a state of confusion, even rejecting him a few times.
However, eventually Kavitha too falls in love and the couple soon begun to gain attetion from many people at the house. The emotionally disgruntled Shalini starts to lose it as she begins breaking mirrors. At this point, Geetha tells her son Santhosh to go with his cousin to go buy some bangels. As soon as they leaves, she insults Kavitha, and endures insults from Lalitha's father and JP as well. Kavitha's brother who excitedly arrives at that moment with gifts for Lalitha and her father, is also insulted. Bearing these insults, Muthupandi takes his sister by the hand and escorts out stating that he considers Lalitha as his sister as well and that the only reason he's leaving without making a scene is for the welfare of her wedding.

Santhosh gets word from his mother that Kavitha has left him and is heartbroken. Soon, Lalitha convinces Santhosh otherwise. Santhosh gets away from his dominating mother at the Dubai airport in transit to London and travels to Kavitha’s village and asks Muthupandi for his sister’s hand in marriage but the proud man is offended and angry at his arrival. He says that he hates rich folk altogether because he believes that his mother's death was caused by his rich father's arrogance and that Santhosh's mother's actions only made things worse.
Santhosh gets on his knees and asks for a chance saying that he left his parents and his luxurious life behind. Muthpandi still appears disgusted but he decides to give him a chance by giving him a very difficult challenge. He challenges Santhosh to live the life of a farmer, taking care of livestock and without the luxuries that he's used to. Thinking Santhosh would leave at once, Muthupandi simply smiles and waits for him to grab his bags. Santhosh however accepts the condition of working on his farm, living as a farmer until the next harvest. The hardships that Santhosh face and how he rises past these challenges take up much of the second half of the film. Not only does Santhosh succeed in the challenge, as well as enduring other challenges caused by Shalini's return, but he finds a place in Muthupandi's heart. Sooner, Santhosh's mother sends goons to take Kavitha away. But together, Santhosh and Muthupandi save her. Santhosh kills the goon in charge, but Muthupandi takes the blame.
The story comes back to the interrogation room, where Muthupandi wraps up the story of his past, and the officer tells him that Santhosh and Kavitha are probably married with kids. But they aren't. Santhosh and Kavitha were waiting for Muthupandi's release to get married, and Santhosh's mother apologizes.
