Ravi's Sify Early Interview
Ravi, popularly known as `Jayam` Ravi shot to instant stardom after Jayam, his debut film. He is undoubtedly one of the young heroes who has a bright future. Well behaved and hardworking, he comes across as a sincere and genuine person. Sify.com caught up with the cherubic Ravi on the sets of his new film M.Kumaran Son Of Mahaklakshmi. Excerpts:

Jayam made a star out of you. Please comment.
Yes. I took a lot of trouble to do that role. It wasn’t easy for me to recreate the magic that worked in Telugu. I thank God and my parents for all the blessings showered on me.

But after Jayam there was a long break. Why did you not work for nearly six months?
It was deliberate. I did not want to grab all the offers that came my way. For me script is of prime importance and my father ‘editor’ Mohan and brother M.Raja were keen that I wait for the right subject and now everything has fallen into place.

But tell us why does your family prefer remakes?
There is nothing wrong in making remakes. Believe me, it is the most difficult thing to make it work with audience in a different milieu. Now Amma Nana O Tamil Ammayi from Telugu has a very good subject and we have made major changes in the script to suit Tamil nativity. So far remakes has worked out well for us and we are optimistic about this film also.

Nadia’s character is said to be very powerful. Please comment.
She has the best role in the film and the strength of my character Kumaran is derived entirely from Mahalakshmi, my mother. In fact in the Tamil version the mother’s character is much more powerful than it was in Telugu. We are fortunate that Nadia aunty is doing the role.

Like your contemporaries will you also be switching over to mass hero role with lot of action?
Right now I have not given a thought to it. I believe that it is the audience who should set an image for an actor. You can’t thrust anything on them, as they are smart. But in M.Kumaran Son Of Mahalakshmi I am switching over to an urban character unlike the village character in Jayam.

Will you be doing only films made by your home production?
I will be doing a film for Lakshmi Movie Makers directed by debutant Babu Yogeswaran. It will be my next film after MKSM.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?
I will be hardworking, devoted and sincere to my work like now. In films it is the box office success that matter and not the number of films you sign. I hope to come out with more hits and definitely will be around (smiles).
